Parrot Island is one of the most unique wildlife attractions in the Andaman Islands. Located near Baratang Island, this small island is surrounded by dense mangrove forests and serves as a natural habitat for thousands of parrots and other bird species. Parrot Island is especially famous for the spectacular sunset phenomenon when large flocks of parrots return to the island from nearby forests. As the sun begins to set, hundreds and sometimes thousands of parrots can be seen flying back to their nests on the island’s mangrove trees, creating a breathtaking natural display. Visitors usually reach Parrot Island by boat ride through the mangrove creeks of Baratang, which itself is a scenic experience. Boats typically arrive near the island just before sunset so visitors can witness the birds returning to their nesting area. The island is not open for landing in order to protect the natural habitat of the birds, so visitors observe the spectacle from boats at a safe distance. This helps preserve the ecosystem and ensures minimal disturbance to the wildlife. Apart from parrots, the surrounding mangrove ecosystem also supports kingfishers, sea eagles, and other coastal bird species, making the area an excellent location for bird watching and nature photography.
